Summer Devotional Blog Study: The Surrendered Walk

Is anyone else shocked that we are halfway through July? This summer has been a hot one for most of the US, even in the northeast where I am. Most of us are ready for the cooler, fall weather. While we wait on cooler temps, I am excited about this 6 week – Summer Devotional Blog Study based on one of my dad’s first books, “The Surrendered Walk: A Look at the Normal Christian Life.” The book is sadly out of print, but I hope to share some of its treasures over the next 6 weeks. Here is an excerpt from the introduction:

“Folks, the church has missed the truth that God accomplishes His work through believers. Believers do not accomplish God’s work for Him. The normal Christian life is not you doing things for God. The normal Christian life, however, is you surrendering in order to be strengthened by Him, and His strength enabling the Spirit of Christ to be at home and welcome in your heart. God moves when the Holy Spirit empowers us, when Christ dwells within us, when Christ’s love has conquered us, and when His fullness has filled us. At that point of surrender, the exceeding abundantly great things of God’s ability become evident in our lives. When you accommodate Jesus in your life, then you begin to experience His power to do what you could never do, and can never do apart from His strength. You know, we have heard, and heard, and heard. It’s time to quit pointing fingers at others, and begin to bow before God as individuals. It’s time to pray for His will to be done on earth, in Heaven, and in me and you.”

“If you’re in Christ, you’ve been rooted in the Source of divine love, invited to participate with Him in order that His strength and unconditional love might flow through you. Because His love is unconditional it will spring forth in your life as you draw from His divine ability to nourish you and to strengthen you in the inner man. When you allow God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit to fill you, you are letting Jesus be God in your life. That is the normal Christian life. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.”

I can’t wait to dive into the first chapter with you starting tomorrow as we look at chapter one entitled, “Not an Arrival, but a Pursuit.” I am so looking forward to the fresh reminder that He is sufficient! I love the idea of accommodating Jesus in our lives. We live in the day and age where we always want to be immediately accommodated. This study will help us get our eyes off of ourselves and onto Jesus! Are we accommodating Him today? Or have we locked Him out of certain rooms in our hearts? Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me” (NASB1995). I pray that we won’t settle for less than the abundant life He so freely offers.

“Jesus, be Jesus in me. No longer me, but Thee! Resurrection power, fill me this hour! Jesus, be Jesus in me.”
